Thaiidols world : Lakorn

Florence stared at the small empty living room. All their stuff was packed
up into boxes and since her mother was leaving them for her co-worker,
Florence and her father were moving into a small studio. They had the whole
thing planned out. Since Gladys was married to a doctor who worked at the
hospital, he allowed Florence’s father to stay in the hospital until their
family got everything settled before he was moved back home. Some how
Florence had gotten this job at the hospital for 9 bucks an hour, which
wasn’t bad. Since she wasn’t attending college, she could work all day.
Since there was no one to take care of her father, she would wheel him into
an empty bed and he’d have his treatments while she worked.

When the living room was empty, she drove the moving truck to the small
studio and unloaded their stuff. Her mother was long gone already. She was
on a plane to her so-called honeymoon. Florence didn’t hate her mother; she
was just angry that her mother had been cheating on her father all that time
and left them flat broke. Her mother did promise to send them some money
each month to help them out since Florence was still her daughter. Florence
gladly accepted it since she knew her earnings wouldn’t support them. She
forced a smile after she had unloaded all their belongings into the one
bedroom studio. She then climbed back into the huge moving truck and
returned it. It was an hour waiting for her cab to arrive.

When she arrived at the hospital she went to check up on her father. He was
asleep. She kissed his forehead. He looked so peaceful. Smiling she fixed
his blanket and walked down the hall to where Joni was. Joni was still in
the hospital since he had bad headaches. She liked Joni. Regularly she would
come and talk to him about everything on her mind. It was easy since he
didn’t speak English and had no clue what she was saying. As for Amber, she
was long gone. She moved out of the country with her mother and her father.
She kept in touch with Florence. She regularly sent Florence money to help
and thank her.

Florence peered through the small window. Joni was typing something on the
laptop his brother had given him the last time they visited. Florence had an
attraction towards him. He made her laugh since he never understood what he
was saying and he was always singing. She opened the door. “Swatdee ka.”
Florence greeted as she pushed the door closed behind her. He smiled and
looked up at her. Quickly he closed his laptop shut.
“Swatdee krap.” Joni replied.
“Just me and you again.” Florence said as she looked around the room. “I
haven’t come to see you for a couple of days now.” Joni stared at her, which
was all he did except sing. “Guess what? You wouldn’t believe it. Remember
how last week I told you about my mom? And how I felt like I was respecting
her more and loving her more. She wrecked it.” Her eyes damped as she
whipped them. “She left my father for some co-worker of hers’. And now,
we’re flat broke. How long is my father going to live anyways? There is no
guarantee he is going to beat this stupid Malaria disease.” Tears streamed
down her cheeks as she forced a smile. Joni sat there, still staring at her.
A nurse peeked in.

“Is everything all right?” she asked. Florence looked up and nodded.
“Yeah. Everything’s fine.” Joni replied. The nurse nodded and walked away.
Florence’s eyes widened as she stared at him in disbelief.
“What did you just say?” Florence asked as she stood up.
“Yeah. Everything’s fine.” Joni repeated with a smile.
“Where did you learn English?” Florence asked. She spotted the remote lying
near him. “Damn it! It’s that Learning Channel you’ve been watching, isn’t
it?” Joni laughed.
“No. Calm down. I won’t tell anyone anything you said.” Joni said with a
smile. He stood up from his bed.
“No, no. Sit down.” She replied as she pushed him down. Everything around
him became dizzy. He sat down on the bed. “Are you ok?” He nodded as he
placed his hand on his head. He slowly climbed back into bed and slipped
under the covers. She walked to his bedside and felt his forehead. It was
burning hot. “You’re not ok. You have a fever.” She said. “Let me get the
doctor.” She ran out of the room yelling, “Doctor!” A couple of minutes
passed before a doctor walked in with a fever medicine. She smiled and told
Joni to open up. He drank it as he leaned back down and fell asleep. The
doctor turned to Florence.

“Hi Florence.” She greeted. Florence forced a smile. The doctor was her
father’s doctor also. “You should go keep your father some company. Joni
will be out for a couple of hours.” Florence nodded as she followed the
doctor outside. The doctor closed the door and left. She smiled as she
stared at him through the small window on the door.
“I’m such a fool.” She said with a slight giggle before she walked to her
father’s room.
