' Forever ' Chapter 4   Story by : Devilish Angel

“Tell me what it looks like outside.” Her father said as he sipped his
morning coffee. Florence smiled and turned towards the window.
“Well papa, the edges of the windows is covered with snow. Little kids are
goofing around and…” she and then turned to her father. “…Lovers are holding
hands, taking an afternoon stroll in central park.” Her father smiled.
“Papa, can I ask you something?” He nodded as she sat up on the bed. “Mama
was married before, right?” He nodded, setting his coffee beside the bed.
“Did she have any kids?”

“Princess, you’re eighteen years old and your mama has gone. I think it’s
time for you to hear the whole story.” He said. Florence nodded as he placed
his hands on hers’. “Well, your mama married this one Swiss man. They had a
daughter named Nat Myria and when Nat was about 4, she ran off with me,
leaving Nat and her husband. A couple years after she had you and Oliver,
she then told me she regretted running off with me. And look at her now,
she’s ran off again.” He explained. “It’s fine with me. We never really got
a long.” Florence forced a smile and moved to the chair near by.
“Where is Nat?” Florence asked.

“I don’t know. All I know is that she’s either in Switzerland or Thailand.”
He replied. Florence nodded as the nurse walked in.

“Good Morning Florence and Mr. Faivre.” The nurse said.
“Good Morning.” Florence replied as she stood up and leaned over to kiss her
father on the cheek. “I’ll come by later, ok?” He nodded as the nurse gave
him a shot. Florence smiled and walked out of the room. She walked down the
hall where Joni was. Smiling at herself she walked in. He was awake and
typing on his laptop again. He looked up when she walked in. “Hello Mr.
Anwar.” She greeted. He smiled.

“Good Morning Miss Faivre.” Joni replied. She made her way to the chair next
to his bed. He continued typing as if she wasn’t there. She didn’t know what
to say. So she just sat there, staring at him. After a couple of minutes of
typing and staring, he spoke up. “I meant what I said this morning.” He
said. She looked up at his face. “I won’t tell anyone whatever you told me.
It’s between me and you.” She forced a smile.

“Why didn’t you tell me you spoke English?” she asked with a laugh. He smiled, turning off his laptop.

“I didn’t need to. You already assumed I didn’t know how to speak English.”
He answered as he set his laptop to the side. “I’m not Thai. I can’t even
really speak Thai.” He admitted. She looked stunned. She stood up and
started pacing the room back and forth before she turned to him.
“You acted like you couldn’t speak English for…” she counted her fingers.
“A month!” She exclaimed. He shook his head.

“You assumed I didn’t know how.” He corrected her. She nodded.
“If you’re not Thai then what are you?” she asked as she came back and took her seat.
“I’m Indonesian and Scottish.” He answered flatly. “I might not know how to
speak Thai very well, but you’re not good at it al all.” He laughed. She
sighed and rolled her eyes.

“At least I don’t live in Thailand. Believe me, if I lived in Thailand, I’d be very fluent in it.
” She said with a smile. He nodded.
“Sure…just like I didn’t know how to speak English.” He chuckled.
“Off that subject.” She replied. There was silence between them for minutes.
“So, how’d you get here anyways?” she asked, breaking the silence.
“Um…well my family, we have this family picnic every year and at that picnic
I sort of bumped my head on a boat while I was wakeboarding.” Florence
couldn’t stop from laughing. “It’s not funny.” Joni protested as he placed
his hand on his forehead. Florence stopped and looked up at him.
“I’m sorry.” She replied with a comforting smile. “So when are you going
back to Bangkok?”

“Soon I hope. I want to go home.” He answered. “It’s almost Christmas.
I want to be home for Christmas.”
“That’s right.” She replied as she stood up. “I have to go now.” Florence
started for the door.
“My prayers are with your father.” Joni said. Florence stopped and turned
around. “I hope he’ll be ok.”
“Thanks.” Florence replied as she stared at him. “I hope you get well soon.”
He smiled. “Um…do you remember everything I said?” He nodded.
“Everything from when you said I was cute to when you told me about your mom
going away.” Joni answered. She forced a smile. “I won’t tell. Your secrets’
are safe with me.” She nodded as she turned to the door and walked out of
the room. She closed the door gently and leaned against the door with a smile.
