' Forever ' Chapter 5   Story by : Devilish Angel

Florence opened the door and wheeled her father into the small apartment.
"This is nice." her father complimented.
"You think?" she asked. He nodded as she helped him out of the wheelchair and onto the sofa. "I'm so happy you could come home for Christmas."
Florence said, walking to her room. When she returned she had a gift in her hands. "I got you something for Christmas."
"Oh goodness darling. You didn't have to. I'm sorry i have nothing for you."
"Papa, just open it. It's my luck that you're here with me for Christmas and that's all i want for Christmas." Florence said. Her father smiled and hugged her.
"Thank you darling." he smiled and started unwrapping the present. Inside he found a 8x10 framed picture of him and florence when she was just a little girl. Underneath it was a suit for him.
"Do you like it?" Florence asked. He nodded.
"What's this suit for?" he asked curiously.
"It's a surprise. You should go put it on." He nodded as she walked into her room to get dressed.
***
A big smile spread across Florence's face as she opened the small door. Her father was in his wheelchair behind her. "Are you ready papa?" she asked. He nodded as she came behind him and wheeled him into the dark room.
"SURPRISE!" everyone yelled. Her father started laughing as he spotted all
his old friends. Florence smiled as she hugged and kissed her father's forehead.
"Florence, I love you." he said.
"I love you too papa." she replied. "You should go talk to your friends now."
Florence sat the bar while she watched her father laughing and having a good time with his friends.
"Excuse me, miss." someone said from behind her. Florence turned around.
"Oh my gosh! What are you doing here?!" Florence excalimed as she spotted her brother.
"Give me a hug!" he said. Florence giggled and hugged him. "I missed you."
"Oliver, why didn't you tell me you were coming?!"
"I guess i wanted to surprise you." Oliver replied. "How've you been?"
"I'm ok."
"That's good to hear." Oliver said.
"How about you?" Florence asked.
"Finishing school soon. I think i'm alright." Florence nodded and forced a smile.
"uh...Oliver, have you talked to mom lately?" Oliver shook his head.
"She hasn't phoned me since i heard about her and dad. why?"
"I was just wondering...you know, if she was still...alive, i guess." Oliver smiled.
"you're a funny one." oliver commented. "Of course she's alive. they
would've phone us by now, don't you think?" he joked. "anyways, how's dad?"
"he's been doing good. you should go say hi."
"nah, it's ok. in a while. he seems busy at the moment."
"alright then. but say hi before you leave this time." florence said. oliver
laughed. florence smiled as she hugged her brother. it was good to know she wasn't alone.
***
3 weeks later...
oliver placed a rose on top of the coffin as florence broke down in his arms. "goodbye dad." oliver said into thin air. "you'll always be in our hearts." florence sobbed as she stepped up to the closed coffin, placing her
arms on it.
"papa, why'd you leave me?" florence cried, placing her rose on top of the coffin. she took her fingers to her lips, kissed it and touched the coffin.
"i love you papa. you'll never leave me." oliver walked to florence and hugged her as they walked back to the crowd. when the coffin was being lowered into the ground oliver held onto florence tightly, holding her from
running to the coffin. florence sobbed uncontrollably as sand covered the coffin.
***
florence walked through the cloud of smog as everyone stood clear, hoping it would pass. too many things had been on her mind for her to even notice there was smog there. it had been 4 months since her father's death. by now she had felt a little bit better. she still had he job at the hospital and had finished up highschool. oliver had given up berkely to take care of his sister. he attended the university in New York and had reunited with his highschool friendsh, but whenever he was home he wasn't happy at all. he always moped around feeling sorry for florence.
"florence?" someone yelled from behind her. it's not that she ignored it.
she just didnt hear. she was just too deep into her thoughts by now.
"florence!" someone shouted again, this time the person tapped her on the shoulder, catching her attention. she stopped and turned around.
"joni!" she exclaimed as she hugged him. it was the first time she had been happy in the past 4 months.
"hey. what's up?" joni asked.
"i'm just on my way to the hospital." florence answered.
"oh you still work there?" florence nodded. "how's your dad?" florence
stopped and looked at him.
"my dad passed away four moths ago." the smile on their faces faded and were replaced with a frown.
"i'm so sorry." joni said. florence forced a smile as she looked up.
"it's ok. i mean, i miss him, but at least he doesn't have to suffer anymore, right?" florence replied. joni nodded. "anyways, let's talk about you! What are you doing here?" her enthusiam was fake and joni could tell
she was really sad.
"well i wanted to get out of thailand for a while. so i picked new york. anyways, some guy here is hooking me up with a record contract, so i'm here." joni explained.
"wow. that's really cool." she smiled and checked her watch. "i'm sorry to cut you short but i'm running a little late."
"oh it's fine." joni replied. "when do you get off?"
"uh...around 6:30. stop by. maybe we can go get a drink or something."
florence suggested. joni nodded as they parted their own seperate ways.
***
joni took a deep breath before entering the hospital. when he reached the third floor where he was told florence was working, he hopped off the elevator. the floor smelt of the weird smell of paper and medicine mixed.
doctors and nurses were all over the place. he continued walking into a small room filled with colors and drawings pinned on the walls. there were ABC's and 123's all over the place. he smiled when he spotted florence in the middle of the room holding a little girl about 5 years old and about 20 kids surrounding her as she read them a story. "and then when it started to rain the old man packed all his dishes into his truck and drove them out into the rain. the water gushed all over the dishes and before he knew it the dishes were clean." florence read. she stopped and closed the book. she smiled and waved as she spotted joni. "hey everyone, i want you guys to meet my friend.
" florence waved for joni to come to her side. "this is my friend joni. you see, he was a patient at this hospital just like all you guys. he bumped his head and had the worse headaches, but now he's all better. just
like all of you will be." florence explained. joni smiled and waved.
"mommy and daddy are here!" gladys shouted as she rushed into the room. the kids laughed and hugged florence before leaving.
"you take care of yourself now, ok? i'll see you guys tomorrow." florence said as they hugged her. "i love you." she smiled and kissed their foreheads. "have fun." when the room was empty florence placed the book back
on the shelf and walked to the small desk in the corner.
"so you work here now?" joni asked curiously. florence nodded.
"do you like my office?" florence asked. joni nodded looking around. "well it's not so great, but when it's filled with those little kids, it's like heaven. since it's the closest heaven i'll ever get to now." florence explained, tears started streaming down her cheeks. joni walked over to her and hugged her. "i'm sorry." she said pushing him away.
"it's alright." joni said as he carressed her back. "it's ok to feel sad and cry. we're human." florence sobbed on his shoulder.
"i just miss him so much."
"i know." joni whispered. "it's alright."
***
joni held florence's hand as they entered the tall building. "this is where i'll be recording for the next year." joni explained. "oh, i want you to meet bee and namthip. in here." joni walked her into a room, much like a
waiting room. it was minutes before they were allowed to go into bee's office.
"oh what's up man?" bee asked as he stood up and walked over to shake their hands.
"hey, i want you to meet my friend, Florence." joni introduced.
"hi."Florence said, forcing a smile
"hello, I'm bee."
"so where's namthip?" joni asked.
"oh she went home. said she's tired of recording!" bee laughed. he looked at florence. "she's my sister. i signed her on so she can do anything she wants just because she's family." bee explained. florenced laughed. "so you guys, any rock soon?" bee asked as he spotted them holding hands. joni smiled and
shook his head.
"no man. we're just friends." joni clarified. bee nodded, but he still didn't believe them.
***
it was morning and joni awoke in florence's living room. there was absolutely no sign that oliver came home the night before. joni heard florence in the kitchen, cooking. "good morning." he shouted. florence
smiled as she peeked from the kitchen.
"how did you sleep?" she asked.
"like a baby. where's your brother?"
"probably got drunk and stayed at Tata's house."
"tata?"
"yeah, she's my bestfriend since...i can't even remember. anyways, my brother knows her brother and they drink all the time. well ever since he moved her anyways. so i'm guessing he's at tata's or something." florence
explained. "do you like pancakes?"
"yeah. my favorite."
"that's good." ***
