Chapter 3

Joni sat at the velvet chair in the grand hall with the other servants and his good friend, Louis. Joni held a goblet
in his hand as the servant pour in some brandy into it.

"Gumpan’s fianc?e is something isn’t she?" Joni asked Louis as he took a sip of his own drink. Louis lift his
gaze to Joni as he gulps in his drink.

"I haven’t seen her." Louis lifted his goblet at Joni with a smirk across his face, "But I’m sure she’s beautiful,
Gumpan only goes for Goddess." Joni smiled at Louis’ comment and leaned against his chair and watched the
servants from the corner of his eyes. Louis was right for one thing; his cousin had always gone after Goddess,
like Carmen. Joni could never figure it out what make ladies fall for Gumpan so easily, maybe it was his wealth
and look but it could be other things too besides that.

The door cracked open as Aon entered through the Grand Hall as her light yellow gown waved behind her with
her hair pulled up in a bun that was held up by pearls around it. She smiled at the two gentlemen as they smiled
back at her. Aon was always a gossip and knows about almost everything that is going on, she was always the
first one to be there.

"Is she here?" Aon asked as she headed toward Louis, who extend his hand toward her. Aon took his hand
and sat down next to him as Joni answered her.

"She arrived yesterday, but they are having a little talk… I’m guessing." Joni raised his brows at Aon and Louis
as Louis poured himself another goblet full of brandy. Louis offered Aon some brandy too as he poured some
into the silver goblet at her side of the table; she lifted to her lips as she took some gulp of it.

"You might not see her tonight." Joni interrupted Aon’s silence drink as she placed the goblet down.

"What do you mean?" Aon asked in her soft tone.

"Gumpan told me that they plan to get to know each other and spend sometime together alone." Joni answered
Aon as Louis continued to drink, "But I’m guessing that you can see her at the ball."

"You mean your aunt, Ning’s ball?" Aon asked curiosity, Joni nodded without a word as Aon continued,
"Gumpan’s going to take her to public on Aunt Ning’s ball?"

"Of course, that is the best time for her to meet people." Louis interrupted after a moment of his silence. Joni
nodded again as he waited for what Aon had to say next, but it seemed that she was out of words and Joni
wasn’t going to spill too much around Aon. She might give it out to the world by the next morning.

"Are you sure you still want to marry me after you’ve seen me?" Gumpan asked as they made their way up to
Carmen’s bedchamber. Carmen kept her eyes on the painting as they walked slowly through the wonderful
pictures of his family.

"Maybe…" Carmen joked.

"Is that true?" Gumpan smiled at her; "Did I just waste my time to get my men to pick you up." He gave a quick
laugh as he opened the chamber door.

"Actually…" Carmen walked in as Gumpan closed the door behind him, "You’re more than I excepted to be."
She studied him as she continued, "I thought that when I came here, I was going to end up going back or end
up somewhere I don’t even know."

"What?" Gumpan glared at Carmen.

"I mean to meet you here, of course… that you might not want to marry me." Carmen tried to cover up her
words as she tried to calm herself down from thinking ahead. Gumpan stood there as he studied his future wife.

"I’ll see you tomorrow for breakfast." Gumpan said as he bent down to kiss her gently on her cheek, giving her
a goodnight kiss as he walked out of her room and closed the door.

Carmen lay in her bed with the cotton cover still under her. She thought about their short conversation just a
couple of hours ago, she knew that she would be safe here until now or until they found out the truth. Carmen
didn’t want to go back home to their castle and do as her father say; she didn’t want to go off with an old man.
She had always dream about her perfect Prince Charming, who she loved and would want to get marry to not
being force to. Gumpan was like the Prince Charming in her dreams; he was sweet and handsome with wealth
and love. Carmen could see it now, their wedding day, her in her white silk, satin gown with beautiful laces and
her hair fill with jewels and pearls. With lovely white flowers on each side of the aisle and people just waiting for
her to make her entrance. Sure, her father could give her jewels and pearls and her dream wedding day, but
Carmen wasn’t going to stay inside those cold stone castle walls and be wed away. Sometimes she wish that
she was her younger sister who h er dad had ship off to live with their Auntie in America.

The warm breeze blew through her open window as she became sleepy and soon she was off dreaming about
her wedding day with the gentleman downstairs who was really someone else’s fianc?.

Inside the castle walls of King Henry Lum, the atmosphere was tense and fill with anger. He had not eaten or
sleep in two days now that his daughter had ran away and not left any notice. He could not believe that she
could do such things, she was to marry to one of his close friend, King George. Did she do it on purpose so
that he’ll lose his face in front of everyone when that day arrive or was it out of her attitude.

King Henry sat at his throng with his face stress from not able to find his daughter. His men had failed him
again, first he tells them to watch her chamber and not let her out but somehow she had escape and ran away.
Now they come back to the castle and tells him that they could not find her, if they could not find Carmen by next
month than he would have to delay the wedding. His eyes were tire looking as his face turns red every time one
of his men tells him that they could not find Carmen.

He sighed as he knocked his goblet off the table next to him.

"You men are not looking good enough." He snapped at his men, "How could a girl smaller than you…" he
pointed to a lean man at the corner, "get away from so many of you. Tell me, how?" he paused as he shook his
head in furious. After ordering his men out again in search for his daughter, King Henry sat alone at his throng
with another new goblet in his hand. He needed time to be alone and think things over, he was in no mood to let
anyone in and stress him again. He rubbed his forehead as if a headache was coming on, he rested his eyes
for a while was he lean against his hand.

"Dad." A voice came from a head of him, he was shock at her voice and thought that it could be his daughter
and that they had brought her back. But if they did he would not be very please with her running away like that.
He slowly raised his head to see her, as his eyes set upon her, he was in a stage of shock. Could it be, he
thought as he studied her very carefully and closely. The smile on her face reminded him of his wife, but she
looked tire as King Henry slowly got up from his throng.

"Oh my gosh!" He exclaim as he walked toward her and wrapped his arms around his daughter. She was
happy to see her father again, even though she thought that her father did not give a care about her. She
couldn’t help it but let her tears fell down her cheeks as the same for her father too; they were happy to see
each other and still knew that they still love each other.

"When did you get here from America?" He asked as they sat at the table with freshly made food. It had been
days now that he had seen food and he was ready to have some.

"Just a couple of days ago." His daughter answered him as she watched the servant brought in foods and
drinks on the table. She couldn’t believe that she was here, sitting across from her father. All these years
without a single letter from her father or anything and now she was here.

"What brings you back." King Henry asked, nothing trying to sound like he didn’t want her back.

"It’s for a special occasion." She answered him.

"How special?" He asked, after he swallowed his pork.

"Oh I’ve missed you so much dad." She said, ignoring his question, as she wanted to spend some time with
the father she didn’t get to know. "Auntie said that I also have an older sister, is she here?" She asked
cheerfully, looking around the dinning room.

"She’s not here right now." King Henry answered as he try to keep a smile on his face.

"Where is she?"

"She’s out for now." He lied to his youngest daughter as he studied his daughter that he had sent away to
America to study and for his sister to take care of. "What do they call you, huh?" He asked, not trying to sound
stupid, " I mean do they call you by your daddy’s name… Lum?"

"No." She shook her head as King Henry raised his eyebrows. "It’s Sawangjaeng, after auntie’s friend."

"Why?" He asked in amazed.

"Auntie changed hers too, because it’s no longer in this country and also because she’s starting a new life
there and so was I." She answered him with her cheerful look.

"But at least you still have the name your mother wanted to name you." King Henry continued as he putted his
spoon down, "Your mother wanted to name you Kelly. But she die after you were born." He thought about his
dead wife as he talk about her, "So I named you Kelly just like what your mother wanted you to be call."

Kelly smiled at the mention of her mother, but regretted not ever getting to know how she was like. Once he
realized that Kelly was silence from the mention of her mother, he quickly changed the subject.

"What time did your ship get here?" He took a sip of his drink.

"Mid day, but I was stuck inside with the others because they were searching us before we get off of the ship to
a new land." Kelly answered him with a quick yawn.

"Maybe you should get some rest." King Henry told Kelly and ordered one of his servants to take her to a
bedchamber.
