Chapter 4

"Kelly." Taya said from outside the door as Carmen turned over on her bed, forgetting that it was the name
Kelly she was to go by. She kept her silence as Taya knocked on the door once again, this time knocking
Carmen out of her dreams and awakening her up. "May I come in?"

Opening her eyes, Carmen grabbed for her robe and covered herself as she got up and opened the door for
Taya.

"Good morning." Taya said as she entered through the door.

"Good morning." Carmen repeated as she tied the robe around her, Taya walked over to the window as she
opened the curtains to let in some light into the room.

"You are to have breakfast with Gumpan in twenty minutes." Taya said as she walked over to the bed and
made the bed. "Get dress and go downstairs." Carmen yawned as she brushed her hand through her armpit
length hair.

"Does he always have breakfast the same time every morning?" Carmen asked as she walked over to the
closet to find herself a new gown that Gumpan had provided for her.

"Everyday." Taya replied as she continued with the bed.

Before looking through the closet, Carmen looked out the window and she could see the clear blue river and
the peach trees as the flower starts to open.

"I’ll see you downstairs when you are ready." Taya said as she walked out of her room. Carmen pulled the robe around her tighter as she kept her gaze out the window and spotted Joni on his horse. He wore a dark blue trouser with a white shirt under his blue jacket and his black boots; his hair waved in front of his eyes as his
hands removed them. Seeing Carmen at her window, Joni waved a hand at her as a signal of hi as he smiled
at her. Carmen waved back as she watched him turn into the stable and disappear. She than quickly made her
wave back to the closet and took out a red satin gown with laces at the arms.

Carmen could hear laughter and talking as she walked down the bright hall to where the others were sitting and
waiting for her. As Carmen turned the corner she could see Gumpan sitting with his cousin, Joni, and his other
friends, who she haven’t met yet. Once Gumpan spotted her from the corner of his eyes, he stood up and
walked over to her and excused them from the others as they walked into the room from the other day and had
their breakfast.

"If you have nothing to do, I have plan for us to join Joni and some of his friend on a little horse back ride."
Gumpan said as Carmen bite into her breakfast.

"Horse?" Carmen asked in shock.

"Yes, horse back ride." Gumpan said with a simple nod, "You said you love horses in your letters and we have
plenty of horses here for you." He placed his goblet down in front of him as Carmen forced on a smile.

"Oh yes," Carmen said, "I do, I love horses."

"Good, than we can join in after we finish with our breakfast." Gumpan continued, "Everyone is already finish
with breakfast and will be waiting for us outside of the stable."

Carmen was horrified, she haven’t even been on a horse before or touch one. What was she to do when they
were to go out there and meet his friend and ride the horses, sure she dream about her Prince Charming
coming to take her on his horse. But she never thought that she would ever be riding one, alone. Carmen took a
deep breath as she finished her breakfast and placed her spoon down before they were to head off to the
stable.

Carmen putted her cloak around her as she headed out the door to the stable with Gumpan, who gave a quick
smile at her as they headed into the stable. She could hear Joni’s voice from the doorway as also with the
prancing of the horses around them.

"I will introduce to them when we get there." Gumpan said as putted on his gloves. "They have been waiting for
us now." He grabbed her hand as they walked toward them, who were waited at the end of the stable. To their
surprise, Joni was the only one waiting there for them.

"Where is the other?" Gumpan asked in his bottomless voice.

"They left," Joni said as he turned to face them, "Louis said that he had to go for some meeting and others left
for other reason."

"That is okay." Gumpan replied as he opened the gate and walked in to get the horse that was for Carmen.

"I…" Carmen started as she watched Gumpan pull the horse towards her. "I don’t think that I’ll be riding today."
She said as she held on to the gate.

"Don’t be silly, it will be fun." Joni said as he headed for his own horse on the other side of the stable. "You will
enjoy, they may not be like the horses back in America, but they are still horses." Carmen turned to face Joni as
Gumpan pulled the horse out and handed the rein at Carmen, slowly she took the rein in her hand and looked at it for a while.

"It seem that you aren’t comfortable riding your own yet or aren’t sure about this place so let me take you
around it once and maybe next time you can ride your own." Gumpan said as he closed the gate and climbed
onto the horse that was supposed to be for Carmen. After settling himself on the horse, Gumpan extended his
hand toward her. "Come." Gumpan said as she took his and he pulled her up behind him. Gumpan held onto
the rein as he signaled the horse to move, Carmen gasped as she wrapped her arms around Gumpan’s waist
and pulled herself against his back. A couple of seconds later, Carmen realized that they had moved out of the
stable and into a trail. Joni galloped his horse after them as his horse fastens his pace and catch up with them.

"Where to?" Joni asked as he trailed along next to Gumpan and Carmen’s horse.

"Around this trail and maybe up the hill." Gumpan answered Joni as Carmen lightens her grip on him. Gumpan
was kind of shock at how Carmen reacted to riding horses; she wasn’t the same at how she described it in the
letters.

"Enjoying the ride yet, Kelly?" Joni asked as Carmen turned to face him.

"Yes, I’m guessing so." Carmen replied back as she searched the area that was fill with wild flowers on each
side of the trial and trees beyond that. She looked back and could see the stable as it stood in the opening with
the gates wide open and servants walking in and out of the mansion.

Soon they came to a river that flowed through the woods behind their mansion, Carmen realized that it was the
river that she could see when see looked out of her bedroom window.

"This…" Joni said as he got off of his horse, "is where Gumpan come to read your letter every time." He pulled
his horse over to the river as the horse lower his head for some water.

"Is that true?" Carmen questioned as Gumpan got down. He looked up at her as he place his hand on her waist
and helped her down from the horse.

"At times, yes." Gumpan answered her with his smile that shows his dimples.

Carmen nodded and followed him as he pulled the horse and led it to the river for some drinks too, Carmen sat
on a rock for some short rest as she gaze beyond the long shimmering river.

"This is lovely." She said as both cousins turned to face her, both still holding on to the rein of the horses. "At
least much nicer where I’m from." She said softly as the warm breeze blew across her face.

"Tell us." Joni started as he brushed his hair from his eyes, "How is America?"

"What do you mean?" Carmen asked.

"Well, you’re from America, aren’t you?" Joni kneed down for some water himself as he waited for Carmen’s
answer. She looked at Gumpan, who had his gaze into the far distance and his hand brushing against the neck
of the horse.

"Well, it’s…" She started as she quickly thought up things to cover it up. "It’s lovely too, but the view isn’t this
great. I live in a small town only, so…" Carmen’s voice faded away as she thought if what she was saying was
right or not, but it seemed so. "Anyway, maybe we should head back." Carmen changed the subject as the
horse finally lifted its head from the water.

"If you want to than that’s fine." Gumpan said as he looked around one more time and got up on the horse
again and helped Carmen up again behind him as he slowly galloped the horse back to the stable.

"Maybe we could have a little talk about our wedding plan when we get back." Gumpan said on their way back
to the stable. Carmen didn’t know what else to say, but she gave a little nod as she slowly raise her hands up to
his shoulders.

Joni got off the horse as he pulled the horse back into it’s own place and so did Gumpan, who quickly closed
the gate and waked out to meet Carmen at the exit. Joni followed behind them as he held his gloves in his
hands and tossed his head back, as his hair waved back. Carmen kept her gaze at Gumpan as they walked
slowly toward the mansion, she knew that he was a sweet guy and would have loved his fianc?e. Maybe he’ll
love her even more if he was to meet her, but Carmen didn’t know if it was true or not. Was she in love with a
stranger that she had just met a couple of days ago, or was she just telling herself to.
