Chapter 5

The servant opened the door as they entered; Gumpan nodded at him as they walked through the Grand Hall.
Carmen looked straight ahead as they made their way to the study room, where they spend most of their time
and where Gumpan was to make their wedding plans. But before that Gumpan offered her to go change after
being in the stable, the ashes and hay would covered the gown. Carmen made her way to her bedchamber as she could felt Gumpan smile behind her from the staircase as she slowly walks up each step.

The hall was silence; it must be that the servants were outside for some fresh air or either in the kitchen preparing for their next meal. Gumpan turned the doorknob to where the study room was he waked in,
as voice called for him already. “Gumpan.” She said in her soft tone, Gumpan knew who
it was right away. His aunt sat at the armchair before the window with her innocent smile across her face.
She had not warned Gumpan about the visit, but Gumpan didn’t need any, she was one of his favorite aunts
–his only aunt-.

“Aunt Ning.” Gumpan said in shock as he closed the door behind him. “I’m amaze, why did you not tell me
so that I can pick you up.” He quick gave her a huge and sat down across from her.
“I didn’t want to bother you.” Ning said as she studied her nephew, who was going to be wed soon.
“When did you arrive?” Gumpan asked as one of the servants walked in with a tray of tea and brandy. Even
his servants knew that his aunt don’t drink any liquor but only tea.

“Oh, just a couple of minutes ago while you were out having fun with your fiancee.” Ning smiled as she
lifted her gaze out the window to the stable. “She’s quite a lovely lady.” Ning finished with another
smile.
“You’ve saw her?” Gumpan asked.
“Of course, you two and your cousin, Joni, was just in the stable a couple of minutes ago, was that right?”
Ning answered as Gumpan slowly poured her some tea.
“You’ve got yourself a princess, I can tell that she’s gorgeous and that you love her very much from what
I’ve seen.” Gumpan poured himself some brandy after finishing pouring tea for his aunt, she always have
nice things to say or just to cheer you up when things aren’t going so well. Gumpan sighed as he sipped his
drink; he was quite tire from riding the horse that he had provided for Kelly. “So, have you and Miss Kelly
Sawangjaeng find a date yet for your wedding day?” Ning asked as she too drank her tea.
“We are going to discuss it after she change.” Gumpan answered her, “She’ll be down in a couple of minutes.”
Gumpan finished, “She’ll be glad to meet you.” “I’ll be very much happy to meet her too.” Ning replied.

Carmen looked at the mirror as she saw her reflection, she smiled to herself as she thought that she had
found her Prince Charming, the one that she had been dreaming about ever night and day. How odd that they
meet in such way that no one would meet, soon she would be wed off to him and they would to live
together in this mansion and she would be Mrs… Carmen thought about his last name as she realized that she
doesn’t even know his last name, but she would soon and everything would go just fine than.

Minutes later, Carmen found herself walking alone down the hall to Gumpan’s study room, where he told her to
meet him there and they would make plan for their wedding day. Of course she was nervous, but she
believed that if she goes smoothly and does everything right than everything will be just fine.
“Kelly.” Gumpan said as he saw Carmen entered the room with her new gown on. Carmen realized that there was another woman in there with him and she was afraid that it was his mother or someone that she might get
scare and lose every nerve that she got right now. “Come,” Gumpan walked Carmen over to his aunt as
Carmen tires to keep a smile on her face. “Kelly, this is my aunt.” Carmen nodded at her as Ning nodded back.
“And Aunt Ning, this is my fianc?e, Kelly.”
“Nice to meet you.” Ning said with a gentle smile. “Nice to meet you too.” Carmen replied back as they
all sat down across from each other. “So after two years that you two have wrote to each other, how does
it feel to finally see Gumpan?” Ning asked as Carmen blushed from both shyness and guilt.
“Very wonderful.” Carmen gave a short answer as Ning nodded. “I… I couldn’t wait until I meet him, I’ve
always wonder how he would look like and how we would end up with our life.” Carmen said, this time her
voice was a little relief and clearer.

“I’m glad that you like what you see.” Ning said as she kept her eyes on her nephew, “He does know how to
pick a wife. You are very pretty.” Ning placed her tea down as Carmen looked at Gumpan –who was listening to the two ladies conversation-. “Do start your planning.” Ning pushed them as Gumpan sat up.
“Well, we haven’t talk about it yet.” Gumpan crossed his leg at the ankle as he carefully rubbed his chin.
“Well than,” Ning said as they start with their plan, “What about in mid June, the weather is lovely and
everything will be just perfect.” Gumpan looked at Carmen if she agreed, but Carmen only had a smile upon
her face and Gumpan figured that it must be that date that she like. “What about the 20th of June.” Ning
suggested as she leaded toward them. “That is a wonderful date, nothing is happening and if something
happens to come up than we can change it. What do you think Kelly?” Ning asked her.

“That would be great, I do not find anything wrong with that date.” Carmen replied, “Do you Gumpan?”
Gumpan shook his head as he gulped down his drink. “Than the date is final.” Ning said with excitement in
her eyes, she had loved Gumpan like her own son and had treated him like one too. It was this day that she
had been waiting for all these years and it was her, who courage Gumpan to asked Kelly’s hand in marriage.
If it weren’t for her, Kelly and Gumpan would still be oceans apart and still be writing letters to each other.

The servant walked out of the room as Gumpan crossed his arms across his chest, he gave a sigh as his eyes
studied the moonlight reflecting from the curving river just a couple of feet from the mansion. He could
felt a smile as it fell upon his face, he never thought that the girl he had fallen in love with would
make his heart flatter even more. His Aunt should know that there aren’t many ladies out there that could win
his heart, Gumpan was a man of his own. He kept his heart well to himself and never would let it out to
anyone that he knew would never last with him, but when he gives it away, it was to someone he know would
last with him a long time. Sure, he was a serious guy at times and never really joked around with the people
around him, but there are times that he lets out some of the seriousness inside of him and be the little boy
he never got to be. Gumpan was always working hard to keep his fathers title and the job that they own, he
stayed inside while the others were out playing behind the woods. He was young, he didn’t know. His Aunt Ning
had taught him to be a gentleman at age six and by the age of ten he was fully a man that knew most of his
father’s work. Aunt Ning was to hand over the mansion to Gumpan when he was by the age of sixteen; she had
been there for him all these years, ever since the death of his father.

Gumpan sat at the edge of his bed as the night slowly fill in around him and the only light was the moon
outside his window, he wasn’t sure how he was really feeling inside. Ever since Kelly arrived, he had been
feeling quite happier than usual. Ning had seen that in him too, she had mentioned it earlier when they
were in the study room. He took a deep breath as he lay down onto his mattress, Gumpan didn’t feel sleepy
or tire, he was still in the mood to go down stair and have some few more drinks. He gave a little shook of
his head as he closed his eyes and slowly let the night take him into his sleep.

Kelly twirled around in her new blue satin gown as the loosely lace flew freely from her side. Kelly had never worn any gown this beautiful in America before, her aunt always want them to look natural like
everyone else and leave their royalty behind. The only fanciest gown that she ever own was the yellow one
that had lace at the arms and a couple of jewels that her auntie sewed it on. Kelly loved the laces and
emeralds that sparkle when the light touches it. “My lady.” The old maiden walked into the room and
stunned Kelly, as she dropped the hem of her gown. “Breakfast will be in a couple of minutes and your
father will be waiting if you keep looking at yourself in that mirror.” She smiled at Kelly’s reflection as
she continued, “Can’t believe you grew up to be such a beauty, last time I saw you…” she walked over to fix
the hem on Kelly’s gown as Kelly kept her eyes on the mirror. “You were in a little blue blanket and I was
holding you while your father was getting everything ready to send you off to your aunt.” Kelly smiled at
the old maiden as she got up and walked Kelly out of the room. Kelly greeted every servant she met as she
walked down the stone walls of the castle. “Good morning dear, did you sleep well in your first night here?” King Henry asked as Kelly sat down across from him.

“Of Course, never better.” Kelly answered with a smile.
“You look quite cheerful today.” King Henry exclaimed
as he vanished the thought of Carmen and King George.

“I love this gown, father. I love everything about this place.” Kelly said as the last dish was put on
the table. King Henry felt quite guilty for not writing to check on her in America or sending her
anything for her birthdays or holidays, he even wonders why Kelly would even talk to her and clam him
as her father after forgetting about her. “I regret giving you up to your Aunt.” He said as Kelly straightens her gown. “It’s okay, I understand. You couldn’t watch after us both by yourself, so you have to do what you had to
do.” Kelly said as she remembered her sister. “Where is my sister, I want to meet her?” “She’s out for a couple of days.” He lied as he remembered the wedding again with King George. “She’ll be back soon and she’ll be more than happy to seeyou.” He answered her, as a smirk fell across his face.
