Chapter 8 Gumpan stood at the doorway as he watched his fianc?e carefully place the newly picked flowers into the vase, he leaned his shoulder against the panel of the door. He had a smile on his face as Carmen turned around and saw him at the doorway. "Gumpan." She said sounding startle. "Yes?" He said as he lifted his shoulder from the panel and walked toward her, his eyes searching the area and saw that she had picked red and pink flowers from the garden and replaced them with the yellow ones. "Red?.. Pink?" Gumpan said as he raised his eyebrows as Carmen looked around at the flowers that she had picked. "Yes..." She replied him, "Is there anything wrong with these colors?" Her eyes followed Gumpan as he walked toward a bunch of flower that had not yet been put in water. "Nothing, they're lovely, but whatever happen to your yellow flowers?" Gumpan asked as he pick up a red rose and walked over to Carmen. "Oh, I just thought that it needs a little bit of colors in here, but yellow flowers are still my favorite." She said as Gumpan handed the rose to her and she accepted the rose. "Don't you like red and pink flowers?" Carmen smelled the rose and Gumpan nodded. "Yes, they are beautiful." Gumpan said as he placed his hand on her shoulder and ran it down her arm, "But you are more beautiful than any of these flowers in this room, even the one that I choose." He looked at the rose in her hand and lowered his head to her as Carmen backed away against the window. Gumpan smiled as he realized her backing away from him; he pulled his head away from her and took a step back. "Aunt Ning would like to see you." Gumpan said, as it was why he came in here for. "Aunt Ning?" Carmen said, as if something was wrong or that if she knew what was going on. "Okay." Gumpan placed his arm out as Carmen placed her hand on top of his. Gumpan leaded Carmen out of the room as they entered the white hall and made their way to the room where his aunt was sitting. Ning's back was facing them when they arrived there; slowly Gumpan closed the door behind them and led Carmen toward his aunt. "Aunt Ning..." Gumpan said as she twirled around to face them. "Ah..." Ning said as she saw them, "Come sit, Kelly sit." She said as Carmen quickly made her way to the armchair next to the window and Ning too sat herself down. "Well, I guess that I'll leave you two ladies alone." Gumpan said as he gave them a bow and headed off again. Everything was silence again as Gumpan left, Ning stared at Carmen, the girl who everybody thought that was Kelly Sawangjaeng. Carmen hid her trembling hands away from Ning's view as she gave Ning an innocent smile. "My dear Kelly..." Ning started as Carmen looked up at Ning. "I'd just like to have a little talk with you since that you're going to be in our family." Carmen kept a smile on her face enough though she didn't know what Ning was going to say next or do next. "My nephew had not given you a ring for the engagement has he?" Ning asked. "No Ma'am, Gumpan had not given me an engagement ring." Carmen answered, though she wasn't sure if Gumpan had or had not given to Kelly. "Well than, I guess that we shall go to town and get you a ring." Ning replied her as Carmen thought about going to town and facing with her father's men, but she kept silence and only nodded her head. "Good than, I shall tell Gumpan that we need to go as soon as possible." Ning offered Carmen some tea as she poured herself some, Carmen quickly took it and tried to join in the conversation that she was trying to make. Soon before Carmen realize it she and Ning was talking about almost everything and her answered seemed the suit her too, because Ning never did stop her and say that her answer is wrong. But Carmen froze there when Ning asked about her family. Carmen placed the tea on the table and took a deep breath, Ning realized that maybe she just didn't want to answer and said, "I'm sorry if I asked something wrong?" "No." Carmen replied, "It's just that..." "You don't have to tell me about your mother, Gumpan already told me about everything. His mother too die when he was young." Ning said as Carmen looked up at what she had just said, in a way Carmen was shock at how it sounded like her own mother. "Yes." Carmen slowly said as Ning stopped where she was and switched the subject. "You and Gumpan will come to my ball, will you?" Ning asked, "It is for you two, for the engagement." Ning took a sip of her tea and waited for Carmen's answered. "Oh yes, Gumpan and I will be there for the ball." Carmen answered her and sat up straight in her seat, hoping that Ning hadn't notice anything odd in her. Dome sat down across the table from his brother, the King, but he was just like any other human being to him. He set his eyes on his brother as King Henry sat down and had the servant closed the door on his way out. "What do you mean Kelly don't have a single clue about what is happening here and when did she get here?" Dome asked as King Henry sighed. "I haven't told her, I think that she just got here and she doesn't need to know about these problem." King Henry answered him as he rubbed his chin; "Kelly got here about a couple of days ago. I don't know why Nat would send her back when everything is going all wrong here." He sound stress as Dome kept silence but spoke out when he thought about what King George would do when he arrive and there is not bride for him. "What we would do than when King George arrive here to see Carmen?" Dome asked in his tone that does not sound at all worry. "I do not know about that, perhaps I write to him to wait until we find Carmen and than inform him to come when we find her or..." His voice faded when he saw the look on his brother's face. He knew that look and he knew that Dome had gotten an idea on how they would plan everything or either he got an idea that was not going to work at all. "No one had seen your daughter, Carmen, how she looked like..." Dome said as he lower his voice, "Not even King George." "So what is your plan?" King Henry asked in curiosity as he leaned toward the table. "No one knows how she look and no one will know even if we switch the girl." Dome paused as King Henry nodded and listened on to what he had to say, "Kelly's here, she's your daughter too. No one will ever know." "But what about Carmen." King Henry interrupted as Dome continued. "She'll come back one day, trust me, a girl that haven't been outside of the castle before don't know how to survive on the street alone. Unless she meets someone who's as stupid as she is, but I doubt it." Dome finished as a smile fell upon his face and Dome notice that his brother loved his plan. "Lovely, we don't have to worry about delaying the wedding day, but what about Kelly." King Henry said after he thought that she too won't want to get marry to King George. "You're the father, why are you so scare about telling your daughter what to do." Dome said as he brushed a hand through his short hair. "She can't do anything but do as you say." Dome finished as the door slowly opened behind him; King Henry lifted his gaze to the figure at the door and realized that it was his daughter Kelly. ..........TO BE CONTINUED .... |
